Yoga with Weights: Including Guidelines for Seniors
Practice with brief lecture
Geared for students and/or teachers - All levels welcome

In this introductory session to Yoga with Weights you practice the mindfulness and core ideals of yoga with the science of bodybuilding. Yoga with Weights integrates the best of both disciplines building core stability, bone density and balance. The exercises stimulate muscle toning, lean muscle mass, metabolism, strength and coordination.


This session will also include guidelines and exercises for seniors. You’ll gently strengthen the core and back, enhance endurance and maintain bone density. Moves are slow and safe offering a deep practice, and yet ideal for seniors. Yoga with Weights practices use a gentle breath at the base of each exercise. Mindfulness techniques cultivate a deeper sense of general well-being. Flexibility improves while you are achieving deeper balance, inner strength and peace of mind.


This session includes:
• brief explanation of how and where the “Yoga with Weights” system evolved
• the essential practice with a variety of Yoga with Weights exercises including warm-up, seated exercises, standing exercises and floor exercises.
     
Equipment required: Participants need a yoga mat, handheld weights (1-3 pounds per hand for women and 5 pounds per hand for men) and ankle weights (2-3 pounds for men and women). Participants also need a large physio/yoga ball to sit on, or chair (confernece to provide folding chairs).

Equipment required: Participants need a yoga mat, handheld weights (1-3 pounds per hand for women and 5 pounds per hand for men) and ankle weights (2-3 pounds for men and women). Participants also need a large physio/yoga ball or folding chair to sit on and use in this session. The book Yoga with Weights for Dummies by Sherri Baptiste  (Wiley) is recommended for those who plan to incorporate this system into their workout program. This book will be available for purchase at conference.
