Pat Deacon
Biography
Pat was born in England and moved to South Africa in 1960 with her husband Dave. She has been practicing Iyengar Yoga since 1970 and had her first intensive with BKS Iyengar in Swaziland in 1973, a second in Pune in 1975, and was awarded her Teaching Certificate by Guruji in 1976. She has been visiting Pune regularly since then, more recently in January 2006 and November 2008 under Prashant and Geeta also attending Guruji’s 90th Birthday celebrations during the last visit. She holds an Intermediate Senior Level 3 Certificate running her own yoga school in Paarl, On two occasion she has served as National Chairperson of the BKS Iyengar Yoga Institute of Southern Africa which includes South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Swaziland. She recently finished her second spell as Registrar/Treasurer of the National Assessment & Training Committee and is now in charge of Certification and Ethics for the Institute. She has been involved with teacher training for 25 years and has been an Assessor for 15 years. She has moved house 19 times during Dave’s career in the mining industry. and moved to Paarl in 1996 after Dave retired. With all the house moves, Pat says she probably holds the record for the most studios opened by one teacher! They have three sons who have produced 8 grandchildren between them.
